About The Departments

The Department of Basic Science and Humanities at Assam Skill University commenced its academic activities from the academic session 2024–25. As a foundational and interdisciplinary department, it plays a crucial role in supporting skill-based and vocational education by providing strong grounding in basic sciences, mathematics, communication skills, and humanities. The department has been established to bridge the gap between technical skill training and essential scientific, analytical, and human-centric competencies required for professional excellence.

Initially, the department focuses on delivering core courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Communication Skills, Environmental Studies which form the backbone of all engineering and skill-based programs offered by the university. The primary objective of the department is to strengthen students’ conceptual understanding, analytical abilities, scientific temperament, and communication skills, thereby enabling them to effectively apply technical knowledge in real-world scenarios.

The department emphasizes experiential and application-oriented learning through activity-based teaching, laboratory experiments, project-based learning, seminars, and interdisciplinary approaches. Special attention is given to developing soft skills, critical thinking, ethical values, environmental awareness, and professional behavior to prepare students for industry, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning.
