The Department of Tourism, Assam Skill University celebrated World Tourism Day 2026 this year, following a month-long series of engaging academic, creative and industry-oriented activities led by the students.

The celebration marked the beginning of several new initiatives by the Department of Tourism, including:

• Quiz Competitions across seven feeder institutions, with the final round held on 25 September.
• Photography Competition for ASU students.
• Launch of ‘Prarambh’, the first-ever e-magazine of the Department of Tourism.
• Workshop on “Drones and Tourism: Redefining Tourist Experiences through Aerial Technology”, featuring classroom and outdoor sessions led by Mr. Debajit Deka, COO & Founder, Drones TechLab.
• Industry Perspectives through video messages from renowned tourism professionals representing Motherson Air Travel Agencies Ltd., SOTC, Jungle Travels India Pvt. Ltd., Koyeli Tours and Travels, and Six Degree Adventures.
• Participation of 80+ students from the Department of Zoology, Mangaldai College, in the workshop.
• Valedictory & Prize Distribution Ceremony attended by Shri Anupam Deka, SRD Foods; Shri Hanif Noorani, Registrar, ASU; Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Deka, Dean Academics, ASU; Mr. V.S. Kumaran, Assistant Director, India Tourism; and Prof. Mahesh Uniyal, HoD, Department of Tourism, ASU, followed by vibrant cultural performances by the students.

The celebration brought together learning, creativity, technology and industry engagement, reflecting the Department of Tourism’s commitment to experiential and industry-oriented education.
